Desde la creación de los primeros libros, las bibliotecas eran un lugar cerrado, a veces inexpugnable, sólo para iniciados: sabios, monjes... Posteriormente, sobre todo desde la creación de la imprenta, los libros se han hecho para llegar al pueblo, ha interesado su venta y distribución.
Empezaron así los intentos de sacar los libros de las bibliotecas e incluso de hacer bibliotecas ambulantes. Las primeras de ellas fueron en un carro tirados por un caballo, ha llovido ya mucho desde entonces, pero la inquietud de acercar la cultura por medio del amor a la lectura, tanto a los pequeños como a los mayores, no ha decaído en todo este tiempo.
Muchas veces se trata de gente altruista que pone su tiempo y sus medios para hacer llegar los libros a las gentes más humildes. No todos vivimos en una ciudad con biblioteca municipal, ni todos tenemos los mismos medios de comunicación para acceder a la cultura. Otras veces son organizaciones no gubernamentales y sin ánimo de lucro quienes tratan de dar un servicio que los distintos gobiernos no prestan a sus ciudadanos, ya sabemos que la cultura es lo último en lo que se invierte, y lo primero en lo que se deja de invertir en tiempo de crisis.
Muchas son las modalidades de bibliotecas ambulantes y con los más variados medios para que viajen los libros y las historias.

Todo esto me hace recordar que de 1990 al 1998 estuve trabajando en Cáritas, en un hermoso proyecto de escolarización de niños gitanos y, posteriormente, gitanos y también inmigrantes. Durante los veranos, cargaba mi Citroen C15 con libros, juegos y distintos materiales, además de mesas y sillas plegables. Llevaba una ludoteca ambulante en la que los libros y los cuentos que les leía y narraba eran elemento fundamental.

Pues sí, Carmen, es una pena que las bibliotecas, con todas las posibilidades y valores que aportan es una verdadera pena que no se aprovechen. Las familias tienen mucho que aportar en este sentido, y la sociedad en sí, que está demasiado acomodada.
